Eyelid Surgeries

Eyelid aesthetic surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to correct signs of aging and sagging in the upper and/or lower eyelids. This delicate and precise surgery helps restore a more youthful, alert, and refreshed appearance by removing or tightening excess skin, fat, and muscle around the eyes.

Depending on the needs of the patient, eyelid surgery can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. In most cases, general anesthesia is not required these procedures can typically be performed comfortably under local anesthesia in a clinical setting.

Upper Eyelid Surgery (Upper Blepharoplasty)

Due to aging and genetic factors, the skin of the upper eyelid can begin to droop over time, leading to a tired, older, or heavy appearance. In more advanced cases, this sagging may even obstruct peripheral vision.

Upper blepharoplasty is a relatively simple and quick procedure, usually lasting around one hour under local anesthesia. It involves removing the excess skin and, if needed, a small amount of fat. Because the incision is made along the natural crease of the eyelid, scarring is minimal and well-hidden.

Patients typically enjoy:

  • A rapid recovery process
  • Minimal discomfort
  • Visible improvement in both aesthetics and in some cases, vision
  • Return to daily activities within a few days

Lower Eyelid Surgery (Lower Blepharoplasty)

Unlike the upper eyelids, changes in the lower eyelids such as puffiness, undereye bags, or skin laxity often appear at an earlier age and are more strongly influenced by genetics. These concerns are caused by the herniation of fat and/or excess skin beneath the eyes, leading to a chronically tired appearance.

When cosmetic treatments or makeup can no longer conceal these signs, lower eyelid blepharoplasty becomes an ideal solution.

There are two main approaches:

  1. Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty:
    • Used when fat removal or repositioning is needed but there is no excess skin.
    • The incision is made inside the lower eyelid, leaving no visible external scar.
  2. External (Subciliary) Blepharoplasty:
    • Preferred when skin removal is also necessary.
    • The incision is made just below the lash line and heals very well within the natural crease, resulting in a barely noticeable scar.

Recovery and Aftercare
WILL I HAVE VISIBLE SCARS AFTER BLEPHAROPLASTY?

Scars are minimal and usually hidden in the natural crease of the eyelid, becoming barely noticeable over time.

While initial results are visible within a couple of weeks, full results may take up to 1 to 3 months as swelling completely subsides.

Perfect symmetry is not the goal, as natural asymmetries exist. Minor differences (1–2 mm) are normal and not noticeable to the naked eye.

Results typically last 8–10 years or more, depending on skin type and aging.

Yes. Upper blepharoplasty is often performed alongside procedures such as lower eyelid surgery, brow lift, or facial rejuvenation treatments.
